Molteno and Sterkstroom Community Development Trust:

ED Platform traveled to the Eastern Cape between 30 May 2016 and 1 June 2016 in order to conduct the elections of one community trustee from each of the towns of Molteno and Sterkstroom.

During this visit, ED Platform hosted a voting process which was be held in both of the communities separately. ED Platform uses a secret-ballot style of voting whereby we erected screens behind which community members were be able to privately cast a vote by dropping a stamped piece of paper into one of a number of boxes, each box representing a nominee.

This process was overseen by independent officials from ED Platform, and, as a further measure to ensure the reliability of the process, ED Platform video recorded every voter as they queued leading up to the voting stations and marked the thumbs of all voters with indelible ink pens.

The number of votes collected in each box was counted and tallied at the end of the voting process at a separate undisclosed location. The counting of the votes was undertaken by ED Platform officials and this process was also recorded by means of video.

The results in this regard were as follows:

ED Platform contacted each nominee personally and informed them of the results of the election and simultaneously posted at various points in the communities, notices reflecting the names of the nominees, the percentage of the votes won by each nominee and the identity of the winning nominee.
