Dorper Wind Farm invests almost R10m in SED and ED in the Eastern Cape

On Thursday, 26th November, Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd will spend the morning with their Socio-Economic Development (SED) and Enterprise Development (ED) beneficiaries in Molteno and Sterkstroom (Eastern Cape). As part of the requirements from the Department of Energy, Molteno and Sterkstroom fall under Dorper Wind Farm’s SED and ED requirements. Dorper Wind Farm has been running SED projects with all hospitals, clinics and schools, and ED projects with nine small businesses over the last year. With an estimated investment from Dorper Wind Farm of almost R10m, the projects include infrastructural maintenance and development, purchasing of operational equipment, operational support, and training and development.

“We believe in meaningful and sustainable development solutions for Molteno and Sterkstroom,” said Denys Rothero, General Manager of Dorper Wind Farm. “Our goal is to deliver high impact, high quality projects specifically based on the needs of these two towns, and we are excited to be able to see this impact on Thursday.”

During the course of the morning, on Thursday 26th November, Dorper Wind Farm will attend the opening of Molteno Kitchen’s new premises. Molteno Kitchen is one of their ED beneficiaries. Molteno Kitchen was started approximately 1 year ago by 5 ladies who had been retrenched from the biltong factory when it moved to Cradock. Molteno Kitchen supplies baked goods and light meals.

Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd was selected as a preferred bidder under round 1 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) run by the South African Government’s Department of Energy (DoE). In November 2012, Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom, and associated agreements with the DoE.

The Dorper Wind Farm site is located almost midway between the towns of Sterkstroom and Molteno, within the Inkwanca Municipality. The wind farm consists of 40 Nordex 2.5MW wind turbines, having a nominal aggregate production output of 100MW.

Dorper Wind Farm has appointed LifeCo UnLtd (LCU) Development Managers to plan, implement and monitor all its SED and ED projects for its 50km impact radius.
