Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd was selected as a preferred bidder under round 1 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) run by the South African Government’s Department of Energy (DoE).
In November 2012 Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Eskom, and associated agreements with the DoE. The Dorper Wind Farm site is located almost midway between the towns of Sterkstroom and Molteno (see map), within the Inkwanca Municipality.
The wind farm consists of 40 Nordex 2.5MW wind turbines, having a nominal aggregate production output of 100MW. Dorper Wind Farm successfully achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) on 09 August 2014.
The wind farm is connected to the Eskom Distribution Network which transverses the project site and will supply Eskom with power, as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) under a 20 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Socio-Economic and Enterprise Development
As part of operating a renewable energy facility, Dorper Wind Farm is committed to ensuring the development of communities in which they operate. This will be done through socio-economic development and enterprise development that will be undertaken in communities within the 50km radius of the wind farm. The communities of Molteno and Sterkstroom have been selected because of their proximity to the wind farm. Dorper Wind Farm has committed 1.5% of revenue for socio-economic development initiatives which include: health, education and general environment of the selected communities. Furthermore, a commitment of 0.6% of revenue has been made towards enterprise development initiatives towards the development and support of SME’s within the Molteno and Sterkstroom area.More about SED/ED
The Molteno and Sterkstroom Community Development Trust is an ownership vehicle that ensure that there is Local Community Dorper Wind Farm project. The Molteno and Sterkstroom Community Development Trust hold shares in the project via Dorper Wind Farm BBBEE Holdings and from time to time, distributions will be made in order to benefit the local communities.
The purpose of the Trust is to realise broad-based socio-economic development and empowerment of the Beneficiaries. The initiatives to be undertaken under the trust will mainly address:
• Welfare and humanitarian programmes
• Land and housing
• Education and development
• Conservation, environment and animal welfare
• Development of sustainable business enterprises
